French Navy
Ship “ BTS Bougainville ” is scheduled to dock on Monday January 7th
, 2008 at Sekondi Harbour to pay a routine call to Ghana in the
course of her regular missions along the West coast of Africa. She
will cast off on Friday January 11th .
The purpose of
the visit is to reinforce the existing ties between the French and
the Ghanaian naval forces.
Under Commander
François MAYOR since July, 2007 “BTS Bougainville” has a staff of 8
officers, 45 petty officers and a 39 member’s crew.
The main role
of the French Navy Ship is to support other vessels and to carry out
amphibious operations, overseas deployment and training at sea. Her
sick bay on board is 120 m2 and run by one physician and one nurse.
She is able to receive one helicopter on the deck.
“ BTS
Bougainville “ is now going to take part with the Ghana Navy in
common training activities, including exercises at sea as well as in
harbour and ship visiting.
